Hours & Calendar

The Observatory is open to the general public on Open House nights and the EVAS  (www.evastro.org) astronomy club nights.  We also have some special events hosted by local groups that are also open to the public.  Examples of the special events are the Quota Club Home Tour and the Estes Park Winter Festival which are hosted by a particular group but also want to welcome the public.  Some of the special events might request a small donation fee ($3 to $5 per person) for incidentals.  Check the calendar to see if there is a special event that says open to the public.  

The Open House nights are on the Fourth Saturday of the month  and the EVAS astronomy club meetings are on the 4th Thursday of the month. However, the  February Open House has been moved to March 6th.  The February 25th EVAS meeting will host a presentation by Mr. Sam Lucas of Lockheed Martin Space Division who will talk on the Constellation Program which is a follow-on to the Space Shuttle Program.   Both Open Houses and the EVAS Astronomy Club meetings are free and open to the public.  On public nights doors open  at 7PM with a tour of the observatory and an introduction to the nights viewing .  The EVAS club meetings also start at 7 PM with a general discussion of current astronomical events and a presentation by a scheduled speaker.  The discussion and presentation lasts about an hour followed by telescope observation.  Of course all observation is weather dependent and if all else fails we have access to a great audio visual system and we can watch a star movie.

For those who can't attend one of the public or club meeting nights, we offer private observation sessions based on our booking calendar and availability of the volunteer staff who can operate the telescopes. For an appointment, please review the calendar and select an open evening. Then go to the Scheduling Page to give us the details of your visit.  As a rule of thumb  and for practical reasons we would like to make the groups between 5 and 20 people so we can provide a  great experience  to as many as possible.  There is no charge for charitable or civic groups but private groups should consider a small donation to support the observatory and the EVAS club whose members supply the volunteers that operate the observatory.
