February EVAS Meeting

The Estes Valley Astronomical Society (EVAS) regular monthly meeting will be held on February 25th the fourth Thursday of the month.   Our guest speaker this month is Sam Lucas, a Senior Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin Corporation Space Division.  Mr. Lucas will speak on the Constellation program which is the follow-on to the Space Shuttle program and is designed to develop spacecraft and booster vehicles to replace the Space Shuttle and send astronauts to the Moon and possibly to Mars.  Mr. Lucas has over 20 years experience in the aerospace industry and is well acquainted with the obstacles and challenges involved with such a gigantic undertaking.    Mr. Lucas is Thermal Control System manager for the Orion module which is the the orbital crew capsule segment of the spacecraft.  He is responsible for the thermal design of this complex multipurpose space vehicle.  His talk is expected to be very interesting and informative.

The doors will open at 7:00pm and the talk will start at 7:30pm.  The Observatory will be open after the presentation, probably around 8:30pm.  Weather permitting, we will look through the large telescope at various celestial objects.
